Trauma Recovery Partnership Program
CCTC’s Trauma Recovery Partnership Program embeds CCTC’s therapeutic services within other organizations that serve the needs of children and families. We are currently co-running a children’s therapy group with People’s Emergency Center (PEC), an emergency housing center for women and children located in West Philadelphia. The group provides a safe and nurturing space within which children can engage in activities focused on their experiences with homelessness and practice coping skills for managing trauma-related feelings.
The weekly therapy group for children ages 5-12 is co-facilitated by a CCTC Trauma clinician and a PEC clinician to address the stressors and losses for children experiencing homelessness. The CCTC clinician brings their specialty in trauma-focused treatment, while the PEC clinician contributes their expertise in the effects of homelessness on children. Together, they are able to create a highly specialized environment that provides the children with informed and high-quality support that is tailored to address their unique experiences as homeless youth. Both PEC staff and caregivers have noted that the children who have participated in the groups continue to use the positive coping skills at home and in school.
